How To Make Cabochon Pendant - A Tutorial

This cabochon pin/pendant is a gift I made for the girls on my list this year. I couldn’t share the project until after Christmas, lest someone know what I was up to!  They're an easy, simple, and quick to make project that pack a wallop!

You will need:

  • A Cab. Also called cabochon/cabuchon/ Resin Medallions. Sometimes these are glass, stone, or porcelain, too.
  • A setting that fits your cab. Cabs are sold by dimension. The ones I used are 30x40mm (approx 1 ¼ inches x 1 ½ inches) Settings will have the same measurement.
  • E-6000 Adhesive. It works the absolute best.
  • Acetone
  • Paper towels or a soft cloth
Time needed - 5 minutes or less

Cost - About $3.50 each.

Braided Headband Tutorial - You Can Make It

My hair is at that awkward growing out stage right now.  I can't decide how I want it, so I just let it grow.  Consequently, I've been wearing a lot of headbands, barrettes, and ponytails lately.  Every time I wear one of these braided headbands, I get a ton of compliments on it.  When I tell people I made it myself, they're amazed.  I thought everyone knew how to make these!  I do mine slightly different, though,  which makes it look finished.

Halloween Bunting Project + Free Printable

You've seen those buntings, haven't you? They go by various names - like swags or banners.  Pennants, too. Well...here's how to make one. I've even created the printable. Yee haw!! You only need a few types of craft supplies and most can be found at Factory Direct Craft.

Supplies:

  • Halloween Banner Printable - Found here and here. It's 2 pages.
  • 2 sheets White glossy or matte coated cardstock - 8 1/2 x 11 inches
  • 3 sheets Coordinating cardstock, either 8 1/2 x 11 or 12x12. I used a charcoal grey.
  • Orange paper.  I used scrapbook paper.  You'll need a 6x6 or 8x8 piece - or the equivalent.
  • 3-4 yards of ribbon.  I used 1/8 inch satin ribbon in chocolate brown.  Use more if you'd like!!
  • Adhesive. I used double-stick tape squares, because I like them. You could use a tape runner or glue stick too. I would stay away from wet glue, though.

4x6 and 6x6 Scrapbook Paper Packs - Giveaway

I have half a dozen or so tutorials that are all but ready to post. And I want you to be able to create with me. Sooo...I'm going to be giving away some of the items necessary for the projects.

This one is for scrapbook paper scrap packs. There will be a mix of 4x6 and 6x6 packs. I haven't decided how many packs yet. I'm thinking 3 or 4 of each size for a total of 6 or 8 packs. Does that sound good to you?

Thursday Thought Roundup

I was glad that Landau won on America's Got Talent last night. He seems really genuine and sort of awestruck.

A robot is going to run the triathlon. Ummm...okay? I don't exactly understand the big deal about this but whatever. *shrugs*

I thought this recipe looked good. I'm a sucker for cobblers and cobbler-type dishes, though.

How cute is this? It'd be pretty inexpensive, too. They lined an old beat up drawer with sheet metal, covered it with paper, and use it as a magnetic shadowbox!

You Can Make It: Stickers

Have you seen those big, fancy stickers that people use for seals on their packages?  Have you priced them out lately?  Wanna know a secret?  They're super-simple to make.

You'll need the following items:
  •  Something decorative.  I'm using scrapbook paper in these pictures but have used everything from fabric to old book pages to maps.  You can even use photos!
  •  A Xyron or similar.  You can use double-stick tape sheets, too.
  • Assorted decorative punches
  • Scissors
Now, to start!   Trim your paper down to size.  The xyron I'm using is 5 inches wide and my paper was 6x6.  I simply folded about 1 1/4 inches and used my fingernails to make a sharp crease so I could tear it.  If you want to be fancy, you could use a papercutter, but a smooth edge isn't important.

Feed the paper into the xyron.  Turn the knob until the paper comes out the back.  It will now have adhesive on the back, plus a peel sheet.

Voila!  Now, choose a punch and punch out your shapes!

These are the punches I got out at the beginning of the project.  Hmmm...I think I'll use the circle.

Line it up, then punch your shapes out.  Try to get them close without overlapping.

Stickers!  Just peel and stick!  They make a great base for stamping, too.  If you use heavier paper, they are easier to peel.  Just a tip.

    Total time - 5-10 minutes
Price - practically nothing once you have the xyron.
